About Us

Joe Crawford In 1975 when Joe Crawford skipped a grade, his fate was sealed as a smarty-pants. In 1979 he was in a bad movie called Up From The Depths and narrowly escaped death by shark and a career as Hollywood's next leading man when he turned his back on show business and opened the door to computers. His first two machines were a Texas Instruments TI-99/4A and an Amiga 1000 on which he created many pieces of amazing art.

In 1996 the Internet knocked on his door. He decided to learn HTML so he read a book and then created his first website. Immediately afterwards in 1997, people on the radio and various books had already began to quote and feature him. In 1998 he helped form the WebStandards Project and a few short years later became the founder of WebSanDiego.org, SanDiegoBloggers.com and SanDiegoBlog.com. He has worked with Jamison/Gold, EduPoint, Bidland and AVENCOM, none of which exist due to the Great-Start-Up-Inflation-Death of 1999, besides AVENCOM, which was absorbed by Red Door. He keeps his writings and essays on his personal site and his coding snippets and shortcuts at the Lab.

He is much more than a normal Frank Zappa fan and is a Registered Respiratory Therapist, licensed in Virginia and California. Joe is a Crawberts Co-Founder, Lead Designer, Programmer and database guru.

Leahpeah Leahpeah initially wanted absolutely nothing to do with anything even remotely related to a computer the first time one was brought into her home. She only touched the monitor when dusting and used the large box on the desk as a coaster when she did the bills.

Then, a year later in 1993, she sat down out of necessity when she couldn't find a pen and wrote a letter using Microsoft Word version 2.0. Suddenly, the heavens opened and angels sang when Leah watched in awe and fascination as her entire letter was spell-checked without her having to open a dictionary once. This might not seem miraculous to those born with great spelling skills, but, perhaps knowing that Leah consistently misspelled words from ėheap' to ėconscious' to ėsweet' and that in high school she averaged using her pocket dictionary 7 times a day, which was 3 more times than she went to the bathroom, and that she had a well-worn rectangle on her left back pocket where the better spelling kids kept their combs but where in her jeans sat a dictionary waiting to be pulled out and read again and again, you'd know that for her, this was indeed a cause for celebration. In fact, she wondered, if this off-white box could fix bad spelling, what else could it do?

And the rest is history. Leah is a Crawberts Co-Founder and Project Director. She does design and front-end programming. She is a contributing writer, does interviews and shoots photos for many publications both online and in print. Her paintings have been shown around the country and overseas.

John Wright John Wright, web aficionado, started out young with his Pong console, Atari 2600 and then a Commodore 64. At the age of 10, he built a fully-functioning, low-power AM/FM radio station in his family's basement using parts salvaged from neighborhood garage sales. Since then, John has worked as a technician involved in many aspects of computer operation from assembly, repair, upgrade, network administration and web design/programming.

John is a solid addition to the Crawberts team as a programmer. He lives in Arizona, enjoys swing dancing and belongs to several Nonviolent Communication (NVC) groups. He also enjoys outdoor activities like hiking and camping. He can also be found here.

Devon Devon Peterson grew up surrounded by computers, software and videogames. He started building his first multi-player online video game at age 15 and did almost entire site builds at the age of 16. He brings his knowledge of how things work to our front and backend programming departments. He is now managing a small team of developers as our L34d Pr0gr4m M4n4g3r.

Tyler Frenzel Tyler Frenzel, also known as a wood elf dirge on Everquest who plays music to get stronger, also plays music in real life as a percussionist, pit-captain of drumline, marching band, and section leader in the wind ensemble and describes himself as a big fat band nerd. He recreates life in 3DModeling, strives for world peace, loves long walks on the beach and babes. His dislikes include other band nerds. He does stellar work as a designer and programmer for Crawberts.

Alison Gate Alison Gate was wooed from afar and finally consented to join the Crawberts team after we promised to let her bring her collection of hats. She spends half the year in Canada and has duel-citizenship, which is, of course, why we wanted her; that, and her flair for the creative and hip. As our Creative Director, she uses her many talents, which include photography, design, and a smoky-jazz voice to keep us entertained as well as organized and brimming with killer design ideas and stellar photos in our stock gallery.
